What can you use the app for?

JAHJAH is a communication solution that lets users speak to their contacts and save money on phone bills. The service includes a handful of products starting with JAHJAH Direct. Direct lets users make calls directly from any phone. The user dials the local JAHJAH number assigned to the contact. The service lets the user avoid paying for long distance phone calls. JAHJAH Web lets users initiate calls from the site. JAHJAH Mobile Web provides the service for mobile devices. A Twitter version is also offered and lets users make free phone calls from Twitter without showing their phone number. Additional mobile and email versions are available, including versions for Google, Firefox, Microsoft Outlook, Mac OS X, Mac Address Book and gamers.

What is the history and popularity of the app?

JAHJAH was founded in January of 2005 by Roman Scharf and Daniel Mattes. The VoIP service was intended to help users reduce phone bills. The service offers an appealing money-saving solution to many users. Some are skeptical about whether JAHJAH can actually live up to what it promises. So far there have been no serious complaints against the service, just suspicious users who are still feeling out the reliability and benefits of JAHJAH.

What are the differences to other apps?

There are a few services that offer ways to call others online. Skype is one of the most popular. JAHJAH seems very similar, however it offers access for an admirable list of devices as well as the web. Users can initiate calls many ways, online or using an actual phone. The concept is attractive and, just like Skype, offers cost-free phone chatting between users.

Alternative Apps
How does the web app look and feel to use?

JAHJAH welcomes users with a plain white background and deep pink hues. The logo is sleek and the interface is relatively updated and fresh. The application doesn’t offer any truly unique or innovative design elements. There is no clutter and new users can navigate easily. This is a plus, however the application feels as though it is lacking visually. The unremarkable style is practical but doesn’t make a strong impression.

How does the registration process work?

A new user can register for a JAHJAH account by clicking the pink “Free Signup” link in the upper, right hand corner of the homepage. The registration form on the next page asks for an email address, phone number, password, currency and time zone. The user is advised that JAHJAH will call their phone number. They must follow the automated instructions to activate their new account.

What does it cost to use the application?

New users can create a JAHJAH account for free. There are no subscription fees and the service doesn’t require a purchase to use. All calls are free as long as the user is calling another user. If the user is calling someone who is not a member of JAHJAH, then the application’s fees will apply. The rate varies based on the call recipient’s location. Users can find a list of rates on the website.

Who would you recommend the application to?

JAHJAH is an appealing solution for users who want to reduce their phone bills. Those who make long distance calls will find the application the most appealing. As long as the user can convince their frequently called contacts to sign up, they can save a lot of money. The application offers a number of ways to call, including mobile phone, web and landline.

  • Allows users to access the schedule calling feature.
  • Provides high quality calls at the cheapest rates.
  • Eliminates the requirement of any headset, download, and other software.
  • Allows users to make calls through their traditional telephone network.
  • Exhibits a number of features including call me button, business account, Mac OS X address book, plug-ins for Outlook etc.
